One of the most common gifts is a wine bottle, and no one who drinks wine will ever complain about being gifted a new variety to try. But, wine bottles are also an awkward shape, which is why so often, we just throw them into a gift bag and call it a day. If you want that gift to have more of a visual “wow” factor, then consider wrapping it in wrapping paper, using the method below.
Step #1: Roll it Up
First, roll out your wrapping paper face-down, with the edge facing you. Place your wine bottle horizontally on the wrapping paper, with the base of the bottle facing the right, and about an inch up from the edge closest to you, and 3 inches in from the right edge.
Now, hold the edge of the wrapping paper against the bottle, and start rolling the bottle up toward the roll of the paper, until it’s fully wrapped and there’s about an inch of overlap. Cut here. Then, cut about 3 inches to the left of the bottle, vertically. Roll up the bottle in the paper again, and secure the seam with tape, with a one-inch overlap.
Step #2: Fan-Fold the Bottom
Move to the bottom of the wine bottle, and then bring the two sides of the paper together at the center, pressing down with your finger to secure the seam before taping it. Holding that center down, start doing small pleat folds around the base in a circle, by making tiny triangular folds facing left. Once you’ve worked around the whole bottle, and the base is completely covered in pleat folds, secure it with tape. This is known as a “fan fold”.
Step #3: Twist-Fold the Top
Now, all that you have to do is fold and secure the top of the bottle, where the cork is. This is trickier because it’s a very awkward shape. The best way to do it is to use your hand to smooth out the paper at the top, by pulling it tautly upward and securing it at the top with your fist. Now, twist the overlapping couple of inches of paper, carefully, and fold that twist down back against the cork section of the bottle. Secure with tape.
Step #4: Embellish
Once you have your wine bottle wrapped, you can add some ribbon or a bow to make it look extra festive. Feel free to look around the internet for some ideas when it comes to embellishing a gift-wrapped wine bottle.
