How to Wrap a Sweater with Wrapping Paper

Gift-wrapping a piece of clothing like a sweater can be trickier than wrapping a box, since there are no clear corners to use as your guide. But, the good news is that there is a method to wrapping a sweater to make it look neat and tidy, and you can wrap a sweater perfectly by just following the steps below.

Step #1: Fold the Sweater

First, you’ll want to fold the sweater properly to create a rectangular shape. Place the sweater on a flat surface and fold the two arms across one another, across the front of the sweater.  If the sweater is a thinner material, fold each side of the sweater inward about 1/3 of the way in. Then, fold the sweater horizontally. If the sweater is bulky, then skip that second 1/3 inward fold and go straight to folding the sweater horizontally.

Step #2: Cut Your Paper

Lay your wrapping paper on a flat surface, with the decorative side facing down. Roll the paper away from you so that the edge is closest to you. Place your sweater in the center and make sure you can fold the edge fully over the sweater with about an inch to spare. Cut the paper at the roll.

Step #3: Fold Across

Now, with the sweater in the middle, bring the two horizontal edges together at the center, and fold across the center of the sweater with an inch overlap. Secure with tape. Make sure to hold the wrapping paper taut so that the wrapping paper’s fold is nice and tight.

Step #4: Fold the Edges

Now, you’ll want to fold in the two edges on either side of the sweater. First, take each side and loosely fold it upward to make sure you can cover each side of the sweater about ¾ of the way up. If you have more than that amount, go ahead and trim the sides.

Now, use your hands to flatten each end down. Start at one end, and take one corner of the end and fold it triangularly, folding it upward and toward the center of the gift. Secure with tape before moving to the other edge. Repeat on the other side. Again, make sure to hold the wrapping paper taut, so that the gift looks nice and tidy.

Step #5: Embellish Away

Once you have your sweater perfectly wrapped, it’s time to embellish with ribbons, bows or any other accessories that you think will make the gift look extra special for the recipient.
