How to Store Wrapping Paper

We know – after a busy season of gift-giving, many of us end up with more wrapping paper than we know what to do with, which can take up a lot of space in our precious closets. But, throwing out excess paper each year means throwing money down the drain, and wasting paper in general, so it’s time to consider some storage tips so that you can have a wrapping paper supply at all times without having to run to the store each time an occasion comes up.

Some Easy Tips For Wrapping Paper Storage

Even though wrapping paper is marvelous, especially from an aesthetic standpoint, again, all the rolls of wrapping paper take up a good amount of space. That’s why these simple tips can make your life easier, and your home a bit more organized in the process. Not to mention, actually be able to view all the supplies you already have, which means saving some extra cash the next time you think you’re out of certain accessories, regardless of the occasion.

Storage Tip #1: Designate One Area to Gift-Wrapping Supplies

First off, we recommend designating one specific space of your home to all of your gift-wrapping supplies, so that everything is exactly where it needs to be when the time comes to wrap a gift. This includes your wrapping paper, a pair of scissors, some tape, ribbons, bows, gift bags, tissue paper and so on. It doesn’t have to be a huge space, either – a spare shelf in your closet can do the trick.

Storage Tip #2: Use a Storage Bin

If your closet space is already maxed out, consider an airtight storage bin that you can get at any big box store. Most are long enough to hold the rolls of paper along with all of your other supplies. You can keep that storage bin under a bed, in the basement/attic or pretty much anywhere else that’s accessible enough, but generally out of sight.

Storage Tip #3: Use a Gift Wrap Organizer

You can also find gift wrap organizers, which offer a number of cylinders sized perfectly to fit wrapping paper. These keep your wrapping paper safe from ripping, and even keep everything nice and organized.

Storage Tip #4: Avoid Wrinkles and Tears

One thing to keep in mind is that wrapping paper that’s stored improperly can get wrinkled and torn to become unusable. Make sure to keep it off of the floor, where it’s all too easy to rip on things while you rummage, and keep the wrapping paper roll tightly wrapped, ideally with a small piece of tape keeping it closed so that it doesn’t become undone, turning into a potential wrinkled mess.

Storge Tip #5: Get Creative

If you’re a crafty person who uses wrapping paper more than the average person, than a more visually interesting storage system may be ideal. We love the idea of turning a section of a wall into a gift-wrapping station, with brackets attached to rods stacked on top of one another, so that wrapping paper can easily be pulled down from the wall at any time. Shelving nearby can hold all of the supplies and accessories, creating a visual gift-wrapping wonderland.

Store Your Wrapping Paper Properly Instead of Just Throwing It Away

If you can find a way to store your wrapping paper using the methods above, then you’ll be less likely to throw it away at the end of each holiday season, saving you money and the hassle of having to run out and buy new supplies last minute. At Waterleaf Paper, we encourage our customers to store their paper properly so that they can get as much as possible out of each and every roll.
