If there’s one type of shape that can be extremely hard to gift-wrap, it’s a ball. Without any clear angles, it’s hard to know how and where to fold to end up with a neat and tidy-looking gift. But, it can be done, if you follow these steps below.
Step #1: Cut Your Wrapping Paper
First, unroll some wrapping paper and place the ball in the center. You want the wrapping paper to have a length longer than its width, rather than a square shape. Go ahead and cut, once you make sure that there’s enough paper on both sides to fold completely over the gift with an extra inch of overlap.
Step #2: Slip a Bowl Underneath and Fold
Now, take the two longest ends and fold them toward the center, securing the resulting seam with tape after making sure that the paper is taut. Again, you want about a 1-inch overlap. The bowl will help guide the shape and make it easier to gather the ends later.
Step #3: Fold the Rest of the Paper
Grab the two remaining ends and slowly gather them upward, toward the center of the top of the ball. Start creating fan folds by folding small triangles to the left, with the gathered paper in your hand. Keep creating these small triangle folds while you work around the entire top of the ball, until you have a fan fold that you can secure with tape. Do this to the other side.
