One of the many popular gifts that we give to our loved ones is a candle, but that cylindrical shape can be awkward to wrap if you think that it can be wrapped just like a traditional square or rectangle. The fact of the matter is that there’s a right and a wrong way to wrap a candle, and we’re going to walk you through the steps to doing it properly.
Step #1: Cut Your Paper
First, unroll your wrapping paper and position your candle in the bottom left quadrant, with the roll away from you. Make sure that there are a couple of inches to the left of the candle. Now, place your finger on the edge of the paper against the candle and roll the candle in the wrapping paper until you get a full wrap with about an inch overlapping. Cut your paper and secure this seam with tape. Next, cut the remaining long edge that’s to the right of the candle, to be about the same length overlapping as the left side.
Step #2: Start Fan-Folding
All that there is to do now is fold in the two edges of the candle – basically, the top and bottom of the candle. Start with one end, and then use your fingers to meet the two ends of the wrapping paper in the center, before folding that against the center of the candle. Still holding that section down, begin to make small, triangular folds with the excess paper, folded to the left, and doing this all the way around to make small pleat folds. When you do a series of small pleats in a round shape, it’s known as a fan fold. Once there’s no more excess and all of the end is wrapped, secure the fan fold with tape. Then, do this on the other side.
